He directed that Quick Response Teams (QRTs) be deployed and kept on high alert at identified vulnerable locations to ensure immediate action. Key hotspots such as Subhash Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Sheetla Mata Mandir Road and Signature Tower were specifically discussed, with instructions to ensure adequate deployment of manpower, pumping machinery and necessary equipment.
Departments were also directed to maintain round-the-clock readiness to prevent any disruption to public movement and ensure teams are alert during heavy monsoon periods.
*Ongoing Drainage Works and Targeted Interventions*
Providing an update on ongoing works, CEO GMDA informed that construction of storm water drain near Tau Devi Lal Stadium to strengthen the existing drainage network and ensure proper channelisation and discharge of rainwater from Sector 32-38 master road towards Badshapur drain is steadily progressing and is expected to significantly alleviate waterlogging along the Medanta Road stretch. Similar drainage augmentation works are underway at Narsinghpur to address recurring issues along this critical location.
With respect to the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), it was informed that storm water along Ghata to Vatika Chowk will be diverted into the Badshahpur (Kost) Nallah while storm water along Vatika Chowk upto NH 48 will be channelised into Leg 4 drain to ensure effective outflow and prevent accumulation on the carriageway.
In addition, large-scale desilting of drains, along with construction of road gullies and water traps, is being undertaken to facilitate quicker discharge of storm water.
D.S. Dhesi further directed the MCG Commissioner to ensure that mobile teams remain stationed at critical points for immediate on-ground response during rainfall events.
*Strengthening Drainage Integration Across Agencies*
Recognising the importance of seamless drainage connectivity, Shri Dhesi directed officials of NHAI and GMDA to work in close coordination to ensure that NHAI surface drains are effectively integrated with GMDA’s master storm water drainage network, particularly along the Sohna Road corridor. This integration is expected to play a crucial role in preventing water accumulation and improving overall drainage efficiency.
*Focus on Decentralised Sewage Treatment in Sectors 81–115*
The meeting also reviewed the utilisation of the master sewer network in Sectors 81–115, where approximately 68 km of sewer lines have already been laid, with only a small portion of around 2 km remaining.
In order to enhance the effectiveness of this network and promote decentralised sewage management, Shri Dhesi directed that Micro Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) be developed as a pilot initiative. Under this approach, MCM, MCG and GMDA will each undertake construction of one Micro STP at locations identified by HSVP.
All concerned agencies were instructed to expedite the process and float tenders within a period of 10 days, so that implementation can begin at the earliest.
*Augmentation of Sewerage Infrastructure through Major STPs*
Further strengthening the city’s sewerage infrastructure, GMDA informed that the tender for construction of a 100 MLD STP in Sector 107 will be floated by 10 May, while the tender for a 40 MLD STP at Naurangpur is expected to be floated within the current week.
These projects are anticipated to significantly enhance treatment capacity and address issues related to sewage discharge in the rapidly developing sectors of New Gurugram.
*Progress on Key Road Infrastructure Projects*
The meeting also reviewed progress on major road infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving traffic flow across the city. It was noted that the tender for construction of a flyover at Dadi Sati Chowk has already been floated by GMDA. This project is expected to ease congestion along the critical corridor connecting Manesar with the Dwarka Expressway.
Shri Dhesi directed that the process be expedited to ensure early allotment and commencement of work.
Additionally, it was informed that the tender for construction of an underpass near Millennium City Centre Metro Station will be floated within the next one month, which will further enhance traffic circulation in the area.
*Implementation of CAQM Action Plan and Waste Management Measures*
The implementation of the CAQM City Action Plan was also reviewed in detail. Shri Dhesi directed all concerned departments to adhere strictly to timelines and ensure effective execution of measures related to dust mitigation, paving of roads, and maintenance of green belts.
MCG informed that regular monitoring of works under the action plan is being carried out, with multiple initiatives underway including road improvement works, management of construction and demolition (C&D) waste and dust control measures.
Progress on removal of legacy waste at Bandhwari was also discussed. Commissioner MCG said that work has been mobilised and is being monitored on a daily basis. Additionally, it was noted that the tender for door-to-door collection of municipal solid waste has been floated to further streamline waste management services.
