Lokayukta Bhawan to symbolise public trust and institutional integrity

Chandigarh,February 11: Lokayukta Haryana, Justice Hari Pal Verma, laid the foundation stone of the Lokayukta Bhawan in Sector -1 at a ceremony held here today. The prestigious project will be constructed on land measuring 1.09 acres, allotted by the State Government, at an estimated cost of Rs 35.25 crore.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Justice Hari Pal Verma said that the day marked a significant milestone in the institutional development of the Lokayukta organisation in the State.

Smt. Saroj Verma, wife of Justice Hari Pal Verma, was also present on the occasion.

He said that the office of the Lokayukta plays a crucial role in the democratic framework by upholding the principles of transparency, accountability, and integrity in public administration. The construction of a dedicated Lokayukta Bhawan is a long-felt need and a significant step towards strengthening this important institution, he added.

The Lokayukta Bhawan will be a modern four-storey building, equipped with basement, parking and other essential amenities. It has been designed to meet the functional requirements of the institution and to provide a conducive environment for its effective functioning.

Justice Hari Pal Verma said that the State Government has approved a total budget of Rs 35.25 crore for the construction of the building, reflecting its firm commitment to promoting clean, transparent, and accountable governance. The construction of the Lokayukta Bhawan will commence in April 2026 and is expected to be completed within 18 months.

He added that once completed, the Bhawan will not merely be an administrative structure but will stand as a symbol of public trust and institutional integrity. It will enable the Lokayukta office to discharge its statutory duties more efficiently, ensure the timely redressal of grievances, and further strengthen public confidence in the institution.

He further said that the Lokayukta institution plays a vital role in investigating corruption and addressing public grievances. By strengthening this institution, the government is sending a strong message that it is dedicated to serving the people with integrity. The Lokayukta is an independent, state-level statutory authority established to address public grievances related to administrative irregularities and the misuse of power by public servants. The establishment of the Lokayukta is part of an ongoing effort to ensure clean, transparent, and accountable governance for the people.

In his welcome address, Registrar-II (Judicial), Lokayukta, Haryana Sh Ved Prakash Sirohi said that the laying of the foundation stone of the Lokayukta Bhawan marks an important milestone in the journey of institutional growth of the office of the Lokayukta. He said that this project symbolizes the shared vision of providing better infrastructure, enhanced accessibility and an efficient citizen-centric system. The upcoming institution will not only provide a dedicated and functional infrastructure but also further reinforce public faith in the system of fair inquiry and good governance.
