Women to get 33% Reservation; Daughters will play key role in Parliament
Chandigarh, April 13 — Chairperson, Haryana State Commission for Women, Ms. Renu Bhatia said that the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam is a significant and effective step towards women empowerment and will prove to be historic in ensuring rightful representation of women.
Interacting with mediapersons at Haryana Niwas here today, Ms. Renu Bhatia said that the Act will provide 33 percent reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies, which will help realise the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. She said that the legislation will enable women to play a decisive role in policy-making.
She further said that the Act will empower women to assertively present their views in State Assemblies and Parliament, making democracy more inclusive and balanced. She added that the Prime Minister’s visionary and far-reaching decision is being widely appreciated and will usher in a new era of women empowerment. With the implementation of this law, women’s leadership in democratic institutions will emerge stronger in the times to come.
Ms. Renu Bhatia said that Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi had laid a strong foundation for women empowerment through initiatives like the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign. She said that the present Act translates this vision into reality. She added that the law will boost the confidence of women in New India and bring about positive social change, where the birth of daughters is celebrated and women are accorded the highest respect. She expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for this initiative.
The Chairperson said that respect for women is the pride of the nation. Through this Act, women have been accorded an even higher place in society, further strengthening efforts towards building a better and more inclusive society. She added that the legislation will also give a strong impetus to women’s education and overall development.
Highlighting various initiatives, she said that the government has taken several major steps for women empowerment over the past decade. These include providing 33 percent reservation to women in allotment of ration depots and providing LPG connections and cylinders under the Ujjwala Yojana, which have significantly improved the quality of life for women.
She said that one of the biggest impacts of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam will be that women’s priorities will now clearly reflect in policy-making. Issues such as education, health, nutrition, safety and sanitation will receive greater attention. She added that the Act will play a crucial role in shaping the future direction of the country.
