Energy Minister Inspects Site for Installation of National Flag at Shaheed Samarak, Issues Directions

Chandigarh, May 13 – Haryana Energy, Transport and Labour Minister, Sh. Anil Vij said that the “Azadi ki Pehli Ladai ka Shaheed Smarak” built in Ambala Cantonment, the land of brave warriors, is set to emerge as a new center of patriotism not only for Haryana but for the entire nation.

He said that a 210-foot-high National Flag (Tiranga) will be installed in the Shaheed Samarak complex. He further informed that the Tricolour will stand taller than the 206-foot memorial tower, symbolizing patriotism and national pride visible from afar, and will become the tallest National Flag in Ambala.

The Cabinet  Minister on Wednesday visited the Shaheed Samarak site to inspect the proposed location for the installation of the National Flag and held discussions with officials. He directed the concerned authorities to expedite the installation process.

Director, Shaheed Samarak, Dr. Kuldeep Saini informed that the National Flag will be installed by the Flag Foundation of India and that a technical team will soon visit the memorial for the work.

The Tricolour fluttering at a height of 210 feet at the Shaheed Samarak will symbolize the supreme sacrifice of the martyrs. In the coming years, this  Samarak is expected to attract tourists from across the world, much like Kurukshetra and other historic destinations.

The Shaheed Samarak is poised to become one of India’s major historical landmarks. Officials apprised that the National Flag should always remain the highest point at any memorial, as it represents honour, sovereignty, and national pride. The decision was taken so that every visitor arriving at the memorial first witnesses the grandeur of the Tiranga — the pride and identity of the nation.

Notably, Shaheed Samarak dedicated to the First War of Independence of 1857 is being developed in Ambala Cantonment with  the efforts of Energy Minister, Sh. Anil Vij. Spread across 22 acres on the Ambala-Delhi GT Road, the  Samarak pays tribute to the unsung heroes who sacrificed their lives in 1857. Constructed at a cost of approximately Rs. 700 crore, the memorial is now complete and is expected to be inaugurated soon.
