Monsoon Preparedness in Focus, Rao Narbir Singh Orders Measures to Prevent Waterlogging

Chandigarh, May 4 – Haryana’s Industries and Commerce Minister Sh. Rao Narbir Singh, on Monday, chaired an important review meeting with officials of GMDA and Municipal Corporation Gurugram at the PWD Rest House in Gurugram. During the meeting, a detailed review was conducted of basic civic amenities such as sanitation, drainage, roads and infrastructure, and drinking water supply. GMDA Chief Executive Officer Sh. P.C. Meena and Municipal Commissioner Sh. Pradeep Dahiya, along with officials from both departments, were present.

During the meeting, the Minister directed officials to accelerate the pace of development works in Gurugram and ensure that the general public does not face any inconvenience. He particularly emphasized finding a permanent solution to the problem of waterlogging before the onset of the monsoon.

Reviewing the drainage system, Sh. Rao Narbir Singh directed that cleaning, desilting, and strengthening of all major drains be completed within stipulated timelines so that waterlogging does not occur during the rainy season. Officials informed that under the master drainage network, three major drains are operational in the city and work is progressing rapidly in most areas. Several key projects, including drainage systems in Sectors 68–75 and 112–115, are under construction. Additionally, the number of identified waterlogging points in the city has significantly reduced compared to previous years, reflecting the positive impact of administrative efforts.

The meeting also reviewed road construction and repair works. Officials informed that road-related works worth approximately ₹447 crore are currently underway in the GMDA area, while projects worth ₹1,271 crore are in the process of allotment. Furthermore, new projects worth ₹1,870 crore are in the approval and planning stages. The Minister directed that all ongoing projects be completed within stipulated timelines, with priority given to works such as service roads along the Dwarka Expressway, sector dividing roads, and master roads.

Special Focus on Sanitation and Waste Management

While reviewing sanitation situation, the Minister emphasized that maintaining cleanliness in the city must be a top priority. Officials apprised that door-to-door waste collection, road sweeping, and waste disposal activities are being carried out by the Municipal Corporation. Around 400 vehicles are engaged in door-to-door waste collection, and mechanized road sweeping machines are cleaning approximately 540 kilometers of roads daily. The Minister instructed that no negligence in waste management will be tolerated and that regular monitoring must be ensured.

Emphasis on Strengthening Drinking Water Supply System

Reviewing the drinking water supply situation, officials informed that the total water treatment capacity of GMDA in Gurugram is 670 MLD, out of which approximately 455 MLD is currently being supplied by the Municipal Corporation. The Minister directed officials to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and make alternative arrangements to ensure there is no shortage of water during the summer season.

Ensure Time-Bound Redressal of Public Grievances

Concluding the meeting, Sh. Rao Narbir Singh issued clear instructions that all pending development works across Gurugram should be completed on a priority basis. He emphasized that officials must remain active in the field, closely monitor ongoing works, and ensure prompt resolution of public grievances so that Gurugram can be developed into a better and well-organized city.
