Chandigarh, May 2 — Union Minister of Housing, Urban Affairs and Power and Chairman of the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Foundation Trust, Sh. Manohar Lal chaired a high-level meeting of the Trust here today to review the progress of the ongoing development works of the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Memorial at Lohgarh in Yamunanagar.
Former Cabinet Minister Sh. Kanwar Pal Gujjar and Rajya Sabha MP Sh. Sanjay Bhatia, who are founding members of the Trust, were also present in the meeting.
Chairman Sh. Manohar Lal reviewed the implementation status of key decisions taken earlier and assessed the progress of the memorial project, trust activities, construction work, statue design and financial management.
Sh. Manohar Lal directed that the project should be completed with the highest quality standards while preserving the historical, spiritual, and cultural significance of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur’s glorious legacy. He said the memorial should emerge as prominent centre of tourism and Cultural significance. The Union Minister directed that a Yogashala should be established near the project site in consultation with local villagers and regular yoga sessions should be organized there. He said the memorial site should become a vibrant activity hub and a centre for wellness, tourism and cultural engagement.
He also called for the development of a running track and directed that literature related to Baba Banda Singh Bahadur’s life, including the routes he traveled, places where he stayed, and the regions where he ruled, should be properly documented and displayed for visitors. This would help tourists and younger generations understand his life journey and contribution to the nation in a meaningful way.
Commissioner & Secretary, Information, Public Relations, Languages, Culture & Tourism, Dr. Amit Kumar Agrawal informed that the construction work for Phase-I of the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Memorial is underway. The work is progressing steadily and is scheduled for completion by April 2028.
He further informed that the Trust has been regularly organizing public service activities under the ‘Seva Pakhwada’, including blood donation camps, cleanliness drives, yoga programmes, and other community welfare initiatives.
Sh. Manohar Lal directed all departments to work in close coordination and ensure that the project is completed within the stipulated timeline with the highest standards of excellence and transparency.
OSD to Chief Minister Dr. Prabhleen Singh, DC Yamunanagar Ms Preeti, Additional Director (Admn.), Information Public Relations & Languages, Ms. Varsha Khangwal, and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
