₹45.05 crore approved for providing free books to students in Haryana

 

All schools will receive free books by April 15

 

Haryana Approves Houses for 2,646 Urban Poor Families Under PMAY-U 2.0

Chandigarh, March 24: Under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, the Haryana School Shiksha Pariyojna Parishad provides free textbooks every year to students studying in government schools from Class 1 to 8. Continuing this initiative, the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has approved a total amount of ₹45.05 crore for the financial year 2026–27 under the “Free Textbooks” component for students of Classes 1 to 8 in the Project Approval Board (PAB) meeting.

Providing details, a spokesperson of the council stated that a meeting of the High-Powered Purchase Committee (HPPC) was held on December 29, 2025, under the chairmanship of Haryana’s Education Minister, Sh. Mahipal Dhanda. As per the decisions taken in the meeting, selected firms were assigned the work of printing and supplying textbooks.

In compliance with these decisions, the department issued work orders to the concerned firms on January 8, 2026. According to these orders, the supply of textbooks is to be completed by April 15, 2026.

He further informed that under the guidance and supervision of the Education Minister, the selected firms have already supplied textbooks at the district level in Ambala, Hisar, Kurukshetra, Panipat, Palwal, Bhiwani, and Charkhi Dadri for Classes 1 to 8. The supply to all schools will be ensured within the stipulated timeline.

To ensure timely distribution of textbooks, the Education Minister’s office is maintaining continuous coordination with the department.
