Rohtak, May 11: In a major step towards strengthening livestock health and protecting dairy farmers from economic losses caused by infectious animal diseases, the Rohtak district administration has launched the special joint vaccination drive “Pashu Suraksha Chakra” for prevention of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) and Hemorrhagic Septicemia (HS) among cattle and other livestock.
Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta has appealed to all livestock farmers across the district to actively participate in the campaign and ensure timely vaccination of their animals. The district administration has set a target of vaccinating nearly 2 lakh animals during the campaign.
To ensure comprehensive coverage, 65 dedicated vaccination teams have been constituted by the Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department, which will conduct door-to-door vaccination in villages across the district so that no eligible animal remains uncovered.
Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta stated that Haryana is among the few states where a combined vaccine is being administered for simultaneous protection against Foot-and-Mouth Disease and Hemorrhagic Septicemia. He said this integrated vaccination approach not only improves disease control but also reduces repeated stress on animals caused by multiple vaccinations.
He further informed that tagging of animals will be mandatory during the vaccination process. Every vaccinated animal will be digitally registered on the Government of India’s Bharat Pashudhan App, and vaccination records will be uploaded online immediately after administration to ensure transparency and creation of digital livestock health records.
Highlighting the seriousness of the diseases, the Deputy Commissioner said that Foot-and-Mouth Disease is highly contagious and leads to high fever, excessive salivation, blisters in the mouth and feet, reduced appetite and sharp decline in milk production. Similarly, Hemorrhagic Septicemia can cause severe fever, breathing difficulty and swelling below the throat, which may even result in death if not prevented in time.
Executive Deputy Director of the department Dr. Narendra Dahiya informed that the vaccine being administered under the campaign is completely safe and scientifically effective. He appealed to livestock owners to fully cooperate with field teams and ensure vaccination of all eligible animals to safeguard their livestock from serious infectious diseases.
The district administration has emphasized that the campaign will play an important role in strengthening animal health, increasing dairy productivity and protecting rural livelihoods dependent on animal husbandry.
