Special Facilities Directed for Differently-Abled and Senior Citizens

Chandigarh, May 6 – A spokesperson of the Haryana State Election Commission informed that extensive arrangements have been directed at polling stations to ensure that voters do not face any inconvenience during the upcoming local municipal body elections in the state.

The spokesperson said that the Commission has issued instructions to all Deputy Commissioners and concerned officials to provide voters with a smooth and well-organized voting experience on polling day. Under these directions, clear signage, help desks, drinking water, toilets, and other basic amenities will be made available at polling stations so that voters can easily reach their respective booths.

He further stated that special priority-based arrangements will be made for differently-abled persons, senior citizens, women, and unwell voters. Facilities such as ramps, wheelchairs, and separate queues will be ensured for such voters so that they can cast their votes without any difficulty.

The spokesperson said that keeping in view the convenience and privacy of women voters, arrangements including deployment of women staff, separate queues, and additional facilities wherever required, will also be ensured. Along with this, first-aid facilities will be available at polling stations, and paramedical staff will also be deployed wherever necessary.

He added that special management arrangements will be made at polling stations where heavy crowds are expected. Additional staff, vehicle availability, and assistance from NCC and NSS volunteers will be utilized to ensure smooth management of queues.

The spokesperson further informed that a nodal officer will be appointed in every district to monitor the facilities and voter welfare measures available at polling stations. All concerned officials have been directed to ensure strict compliance with these instructions so that the election process can be conducted in a free, fair, and smooth manner.
